Water

§  In collaboration with a US NGO, Health, Education Relief Organization (HERO), we have dug a shallow well at the secondary school and continue to work with Engineering Without Borders to improve access to water in the village.

§   With the assistance of the Gift of Water Organization, we have provided access of potable and clean water to many homes in the community, using a simple filtration system.

§  During the 2011 Cholera outbreak, we contracted with a Hinche-based company, Klorfasil, to provide 330 chlorinated buckets to many needy households.

§  In the past we set up and trained the low cost SODIS system of water purification using UV rays to continue improving access to water quality in Los Palis.

§  During the 2015 mission,  we introduced another system, the WAPI technique (Water Purification Indicator). We received the technical assistance of the Rotary Club of Conyers.  In 2017, we trained the people of Los Palis in making the WAPI devices from the parts. The effort to improve access to potable water will continue.

§  In 2020, we introduced the individual LifeStraw system. Next year, more LifeStraw units will be provided to the high school students.
